Storytime/Art Mondays
(6-8 yrs) 11am-12pm

What we will be doing

Each zoom class, I will read a story to the kids.  We will discuss it afterward as a group.  We will be covering things like plot, characters, themes, setting, point of view, etc. but in a way that feels natural to this age group.  I do not believe in putting kids on the spot.  The kids will have freedom to answer questions and speak or not to.  I will encourage kids to join in and use their voice but with no pressure.  My goal is to create a very comfortable environment.  I find that by doing so, even kids who are more reluctant to speak up, over time end up feeling safe and comfortable enough to start sharing.  There will be activities that I will give the kids to work on during the week between our zooms.  This will mostly be drawing or creative expression opportunities for them to be able to share in the next zoom.  I will be setting this zoom at an hour long, but depending on how many sign up and how the energy flow is, they may end up at 40 or 45 minutes long as this is a younger group.

“My wife and I want to highly recommend online classes for elementary students* taught by Sarah Martin. Our son took part in two of her sessions this fall, and we have been blown away by how well she listens and interacts with the children. She is always coming up with new ways to keep young students engaged, and we are also impressed how the students interact with each other based on her lessons for the day. Sarah has also encouraged our son to pursue art and reading activities that we would not have thought for him to do. Our son took a Storytime/Art class as well as a LEGO Creative Building class, but she offers other age-appropriate classes as well. She will soon begin sign-ups for her winter classes. You can get more specifics from her by emailing her at headmistressathogwarts@gmail.com. She doesn’t REALLY teach at Hogwarts… but if she did, she’d be a great teacher there too!”--Brant and Carolyn

*I actually offer classes to kids ages 6-14*
